How to Play Your Part to Further Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice In Your School With Catherine Erpen
The work of anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion and justice ( DEIJ) is not the work of some, it is work that all of us need to do. So much has been said on the topic in recent years, especially since the death of George Floyd in the United States of America in 2020. The number one goal of schools should be to become inclusive and culturally sustaining environments for staff and students, but how many of us are truly doing the work that is necessary to achieve this goal?
In this episode of the Teach Middle East podcast, we speak with Catherine Erpen, who is committed to learning and doing what it takes to ensure that her school truly becomes a place in which everyone can feel included. Take some time to get to know a little more about Catherine Erpen. Catherine is the principal of GEMS World Academy in Abu Dhabi. Catherine does not profess to be an expert on DEIJ, but she is intentional in learning more and implementing what she has learned in a bid to create a truly inclusive school for staff as well as students.
